Conversations with a Toddler: Act One

ACT ONE



Scene 1



Curtain opens.

Two chairs CS [center stage], one US [upstage] and
SR [stage right] to the other. The MOM, beautiful
woman, mid-twenties is sitting on the DS
[downstage] chair. The CHILD, blond hair blue eyed boy
toddler, is sitting on the other.

MOM
How was daycare today?

CHILD
Bllagggemm Jeffery Blllerrriggm

MOM
Oh, yeah? You played with Jeffery? You love Jeffery, huh?

CHILD
Yagerallkmms Spongebob Yoppllick

MOM
Yes, you love Spongebob, too, huh? What else do you love? Momma?

CHILD
Momma Bbllaammm Momma.

MOM
Yup, Momma and trains?

CHILD
Choo choo train! Choo choo train!

MOM
Yup, trains and, what else?

(beat)

Pooh?

(Pause)

You love Pooh, right?

(Pause)

Ryder? Are we finished with this conversation?

(Pause)

Did you fall asleep back there or something?

CHILD
(Fake snoring, eyes wide open.)

MOM
(Looking at CHILD.)
Okay, then.

Close curtain.
